Sometimes, people hear the phrase self-care and think “that’s selfish!” What if I told you there’s a thing called selfless self-care?
What is this idea? It’s nothing new really. It run on the premise that in order to do selfless things for others, we need to practice self-care for ourselves. That’s because one cannot take care of others without first taking care of yourself. In short, self-care is never selfish. Let’s talk a bit more about what it means to practice selfless self-care.
Obviously, self-care is about things that help you have a better life. It takes many different forms, from meditation to exercise, and everything in between.
When I practice self-care, I find things that make me happy and fulfilled. That’s what I want for you too! Take a look at the things that make you smile. Is it a meditation session? What about mindfulness? As I say all the time, your practices are for you!
Something I like to do is combine different self-care activities. Here are a few combos:
Combinations for Selfless Self-Care
- Meditation and Walking
- A bubble bath and mindfulness practice
- Journaling and exercise (like walking)
- Meditation and Journaling
These are just a handful of ideas. By combining practices, you get more “bang for your buck” which is huge for any thriving practice. Something I’m going to do this year is get into Bullet Journaling. It’s a new to me type of self-care and I’ve been scared to try it out.
This week, I want to keep the post short so I’ll end with this. Remember to prioritize yourself and your self-care. I encourage you to look at all the ways to keep it at the front of your mind. If you have to, create a reminder on your phone’s calendar. Incidentally, when we don’t write things down, we forget to do them. My challenge for you all this week is to take one thing to prioritize yourself and your self-care. After all, self-care is never selfish!
Until next week, be well and namaste!
